He wondered why he had volunteered for such a ludicrous assignment. Bitterly he recalled it not really being his choice as he was simply the last one to hear about the task and was forced into it. While the rewards consisted of an exquisite dinner for those that excelled in their duties, the fact that he would have to be used as a guinea pig for the scheming 12th Division was what made him uncomfortable. Grant it, he had rarely met anyone from the 12th but the rumors and stories surrounding them would give anyone pause to be caught up in their experiments.
“Katsuragi-san? This way please.” A woman in white garb, something of a cross between a Shinigami's tradtional uniform and a lab coat, guided him through the division building. A multitude of danger signs scattered about the hallway, informational text on boards he couldn't even fathom a guess at what they were talking about. He was starting to feel overwhelmed but kept his outward calm, smiling and nodding at those he passed by.
His weapon had been confiscated which was fine with him as it was little more than a gaudy accessory in his hands. Though there was a tinge of emptiness when he absently reached to rest his arm on the hilt or to absently pull on the white silk that kept in place. She kept a steady pace in front of him, a woman that had no time to escort an outsider but saw to get the task done quickly.
After a few moments he managed to take a peek through a door that was closing behind another shinigami. Bright lights flashed within, people working on metal components and weapons that glowed brightly with reishi in a cascade of colors that shifted when electricity pulsed from a metal rod.
“Quickly, please.” She insisted, not bothering to turn her head and admonish the purple-haired man for looking where he shouldn't. Would they really just let him look around so carelessly if any of it was truly top secret? No, Shuu mused, he wasn't allowed to look at anything...special. Letting out a sigh, the Shinigami hurried after his compatriot and kept pace with her till they finally came to a stop.
“Wait here, do not move. One other should be along shortly.” Green eyes traversed the hallway he was standing in, waiting patiently as he was instructed. For being the 12th division, he had only done repairs to the building on the outside and was never allowed inside. While his imagination ran away with him on those days, thoughts of secret experiments and mad scientists running rampant, he was underwhelmed by the mundane appearance of what he had seen so far.
Then again, who was to say that the entire building like this? Still holding onto hope that there was something fantastical at work within the walls of the 12th, he wondered what his family was up to at the time. The eldest were probably training or dealing with academy shenanigans. Jin would most likely be getting scolded by an instructor or their guardian. Sana and Kazemaru would be training dilligently or teasing the poor boy. The little ones would be shopping or taking care of household chores while Yuichi was cooking some sort of treat for the three of them. His idle daydreams were broken as he finally heard footfalls down the hallway.
A familiar pace of the woman who escorted him earlier, a fierce pace with her head held high. Did he catch a name? She didn't seem the type to exchange pleasantries, probably due to the nature of her job. He had a sneaking suspicion it wasn't escorting outsiders around the premises. A red-headed fellow was in tow, his uniform just as noticeably different as the fiery red hair that caught his attention. A far cry from the black and white, it made Shuu itch to want to get out of his uniform and wear something that looked comfortable like that
“Wait here. Talk, mingle, whatever you want. I'll be back to fetch you two.” She announced curtly, swinging open the door and slipping inside the room without another word. There was an silence in the air for a moment before Shuu put himself together and cleared his throat, offering a formal bow.
“Greetings. I am Katsuragi Shuu, 10th Division. Pleasure to meet you.”
