Member's Code of Conduct
Rules, whether we like them or not, are integral to any community that wants to go the distance. When followed by both staff and members, they allow us to build a healthy and social community. The rules below provide a baseline that applies to every single person who wants to be a part of our community here. By joining, you agree to abide by these rules and try your best to uphold them. Consequences for breaking these rules will be outlined further below, but first, please read through the rules themselves. They are fairly simple and far shorter than the usual terms and conditions!
1. No bullying, no harassment.
There is zero tolerance for any kind of hate speech here. These include but are not limited to homophobia, ableism, transphobia, racism, sexism, Islamophobia, and antisemitism. Ideals and rhetoric based deeply in hate against often marginalized groups, such as white supremacy, will also not be tolerated. Ascribing to those ideals makes you unwelcome here for as long as you believe in them. The use of slurs towards another player will be met with punishment. And when it comes to the use of slurs or sensitive topics in-character, these must be handled with respect and talked out with your other players; we understand that writing is a place to handle complex feelings, but doing it inconsiderately and ignorant of the topic you're writing about ends in more stupidity and anger. Be smart and careful.
Additionally, there is no justification for bullying another member here. Everyone knows lighthearted teasing and playful jokes are fine within reason. However, if someone tells you to stop or that they are uncomfortable, or if the jokes are blatantly becoming insulting, that crosses the boundary from teasing to bullying. If they say stop, you stop. These rules also apply to name-calling between players.
2. No minors and no explicit sexual content on the board.
This is an 18+ site on account of the topics dealt with and the maturity needed to handle in-character and out-of-character disputes. However, just because we're all adults here doesn't mean we need to post porn everywhere. Some of us browse in public spaces (e.g. on the train), among coworkers, or the family living room. We don't need Aunt Jean seeing a tiddy when we were just trying to check if someone replied to our post. Don't put it in your signatures, don't put in in non-NSFW chats, and don't put it in your avatars. There will be a password-locked NSFW chat on our community Discord if need be.
When it comes it threads with NSFW written content, that must be dealt with through Google Docs or outside the forum. Unfortunately, Proboards sucks and we are legally not allowed to host NSFW written content here because no one at Proboards has seen a cock.
Minors will be banned if we find out you are indeed under 18. This forum is hosted in the United States, and as such, 18 is the age that you must either be at or older than to play here. Please, if you are as mature as you think you are, respect that this space is for and made by adults. Thank you.
3. No plagiarism or cheating.
It's fine if you have strong feelings about a character in media and you take some inspiration from them to write your new Shinigami or whatnot, but wholly ripping a character from something else (be it media or the work of another person on this and/or other forums) is not allowed here. Coincidences do happen and we understand that, especially with common concepts, but it's pretty easy to tell if you're stealing the words of another person's application or making a character with the same personality and face as Nami from One Piece. If you want to write characters from other media, there are forums and fanfiction sites for that, but please don't do it here.
Okay, actually, you can do this but ONLY with Nami from One Piece.
There are other ways to cheat, however, such as metagaming. Metagaming is when you, the writer, decide to use the knowledge gained from out-of-character experiences (AKA the meta) to determine what your character will do next. This can occur concerning mechanics and story. Looking at another the mechanics page of another player's character to target their weaknesses, when your character would otherwise never have known that, is metagaming. Attempting to use information that you read in another thread, information that your character was not informed of and had no reason to know, to make your character do something is metagaming. When worked out between all players involved, this meta-information can be used to arrange interesting storylines. For example, negotiating a fight with another player to have their character's power trigger a key moment in your character. But when used against another player, or players, to unfairly gain the upper hand in any matter? It's metagaming, and it will be punished.
4. Do not bring interpersonal feelings into your threads.
Inevitably, someone will hurt your feelings here. If it happens out-of-character, we can talk that out and maybe even fix it. In-character, things aren't so simple. Not everyone is going to hold hands and be best friends. There is a character out there that will hate your character just for being part of whatever race you're playing. We are playing monsters, villains, heroes, and victims, after all. They can be pretty nasty.
This is okay! You are not your character. You have to separate yourself from your character and take those moments as evenly as possible. It's okay to be upset, but it's not okay to take it out on another person or hold a grudge against them for playing their character. If you don't like someone out-of-character, or they don't like you, that's fine too. Not everyone is going to be friends in the real world either. But if you make plans against each other's characters just to settle the feelings you have out-of-character, the offenders will be punished. If you are having problems separating yourself from your character, there are resources for handling that, and until it's dealt with, only roleplay with people close to you.
Consequences
Here at Bleach Moumei, we go by the "Three Strikes" Policy. How this system works is:
Your first offense of a rule will be met with a warning from whoever is on duty at the time.
This is where most conflicts should end: everyone messes up here and there, what matters is that you think about where you messed up and apologize to whoever you wronged.
Your second offense will result in a kick from the chat (or if it's more severe and/or on the boards themselves, a temporary ban ranging from 24 hours to a week), and a discussion with staff on duty before and after the action.
The use of actual force is intended to reinforce what our staff is trying to communicate to you. Take your time, however long it is, to further think about what happened and cool down.
Your third offense will be a permanent ban.
If you reach here, you've shown that you are incapable of thinking about others and/or controlling yourself. Being on this site is not a right, it is a privilege, and when you abuse that, we are allowed to take that away from you.
Ultimately, what these rules boil down to is simple. Don't be an asshole, listen to other people, and make sure you were born at least 18 years ago. If you can do that, you are more than welcome here on Bleach Moumei.
