The World of Mortals Though its denizens would take umbrage with the term, Earth is the no man's land of the spiritual war and has been a hot pot of the living, the dead, and the dying since the dawn of time. As riddled with corrupt bureaucracy as the Soul Society and as vicious and uncaring as Hueco Mundo, Earth's stand-out feature is humanity; their optimism, and the rapid change their short lives necessitate. Now, after millions of years of suppression, the lines between the mundane and the spiritual have blurred, seemingly overnight, and the forces of the spirit world are scrambling to adapt. Meanwhile governments, corporations, and individuals alike, are taking advantage of this whole new secret world they've become privy to. If you're to leave your mark on the world, Earth is the best place to start, but you'll have to be prepared for this wild new frontier.
The Mortal Realm is as diverse as it is large. With a vast spread of geographical features, and the population of the entire realm rapidly approaching eight billion, there is no shortage of similarities between Earth and the realms that surround it; Soul Society, birthed from the culture of Japan, and Hueco Mundo, a gory fusion of subtropical climates such as the Sahara, and the cold winter of the Gobi Desert. Yet for every cultural and topographical match between the realms, Earth has just as many strange and wonderful differences. From the icy heights of it's mountains, to the dark crushing depths of it's seas, to the volcanic heat of the Earth's core, the realm of mortals is an infinite source of wonder and mystery that not even it's natives have fully tapped.
One such wonder are the leylines that stretch from continent to continent, connecting the spiritual meccas known as Jūreichi. Just about any area where people gather en-masse and life begets death has a Spiritual Field, but only the largest or most spiritually active of these places become Jūreichi. Occasionally Jūreichi have been known to change, though the phenomena is rare the most recent example of this change is a small town in Japan called Karakura. Small, and dense, Karakura's spiritual field expanded to encompass all of Tokyo after it became the favored site for many of the spiritual world's biggest conflicts. After the spiritual fields expansion it became a Jūreichi. Other Jūreichi sites include: New York, Sao Paulo, London, Istanbul, Moscow, Egypt, Sydney, and mysteriously, the Antarctic.
Towns and cities aren't the only locations that have spiritual fields. Certain mystical locations of the world generate their own. Sites of spiritual importance, such as shrines and temples, places of untouched natural beauty, like the peaks of Mount Fuji, or places of deepest tragedy, like Aokigahara, these places and others all have their own fields. These smaller fields, not large enough to be Jūreichi, are typically denser as a result of their abundance of reishi, this makes them more suited for individual use; prime stalking grounds for cunning Hollow looking to stay out of the limelight, or Quincy in need of an appropriate teaching environment, the Shinigami Academy even use these denser spiritual fields as training grounds for their students.
Spiritual Awareness Most human beings are numb to the powers around them, able to see only the concrete and glass and the flesh and blood, humanity has been taught that the spiritual is fictional, that those who believe are wrong and should be shunned. All the same, they've never been able to explain why darkness frightens them, why the unknown is such a terrifying concept. The answer is a secret shared by the smallest fraction of the worlds population, the cold air that raises the hairs on the back of your neck is the spine-chilling presence of a Hollow searching for it's prey, that strange gust of wind on a still and quiet morning is the shunpo of a Shinigami rushing to their next assignment. The people that can see the cause for these phenomena are known as High-Spec Mortals and they have the potential to become legendary.
High-Spec Mortals can be born, if one or both of their parents also happen to be High-Spec Mortals, or made by being directly exposed to large amounts of spiritual power, or Reiryoku. If they are born, their reiryoku is inherited, if they are a made, then their reiryoku was absorbed from the discharge of reiryoku by other beings. This is where a lot of humans involved in the spiritual world stop, but the possibilities for human growth are endless and there are many ways for High-Spec Mortals to gain powers on par with Shinigami and Hollow. The methods for becoming a spiritually powerful mortal are as numerous as the stars, but the two most common methods are through Quincy training or Fullbring awakening.
Because of the nature of high-spec mortals their population has naturally increased, and the rate of that increase rises with every passing year.
Mortal Ambition It was inevitable that humanity would discover the spiritual world, and it is inevitable that knowledge of it would spread. Now, Earth is on the brink of exposing the secret world of monsters and ghosts to the globe, but not before some of the more enterprising humans take advantage of the opportunity before them.
Corporate Organizations of all shapes and sizes, with executives in the know on spiritual events, have exploited their hidden knowledge. Some out of greed for profit and gain, and others out of philanthropic altruism so that they may raise up their fellow man.
An example of one of the largest companies to benefit from their inclusion in the hidden world is US-based Adimus Industries. Built in New York, their skyscraper headquarters dwarfs all but the One World Trade Center. Decidely, Adimus Industries has promoted the well-being of mankind since it's inception, providing not only luxury tech goods for customer consumption, but developing new and industry-leading methods for improving the lives of people across the globe. Behind the spiritual veil, Adimus Industries employs and equips humans with spiritual awareness, known as High-Spec Mortals, with the tools and training they need to awaken their latent power and become modern day legends in the fight against masked monsters and the controlling agents in black pajamas.
Besides corporate bodies, Governments throughout the world have been using the power of the spiritual world to their advantage. Some, like the three-pronged government of Japan, have been utilizing this power for hundreds of years. As a result, Japan has become the unofficial representative of the mortal world in all matters regarding the relationship between Earth and the other realms, with Karakura designated as the historical Neutral Zone, if not for individual disputes, then for disagreements between entire realms. When conflict strikes, Karakura is where peace may be forged anew. This hasn't stopped other countries from coming to the table and attempting to carve out their own place in the spiritual-political sphere, with some nations banding together to leverage their combined resources in negotiations. The unfortunate reality of the spreading awareness is that it has stretched mortal-immortal relationships thin, as those new to the scene repeat the mistakes of those that came before.
There are those among the mortals that have been worshiping the spirits even without being able to perceive them, now that spiritual awareness is becoming more common some of these humble believers have become Devout Zealots. Previously hidden organizations based around the worship of Hollow have started to rise to the surface, emulating their primal deities in an attempt to gain power and influence. Spread across the entire world, these fanatical groups are off shoots of the same religion, their beliefs and tenants evolving individually over centuries. Some Hollow have embraced these Cults and gorged themselves on sacrifices and offerings. The Shinigami, and particularly world religions, have taken affront to the existence of these groups that emulate and deify the natural horrors of Hollow, and have dedicated themselves to stamping them out. But not all of these newly risen worshipers are looking to do harm. Some simply want the world they've believed in all this time to match the serenity they were promised, having faith in the humanity of Hollow and worshiping what they call the Full One, a Hollow that has surpassed it's own hunger and found enlightenment, able to lead humanity to a peaceful utopia.
All of these aspects of mortal existence merge, entwined with one another, inseparable, making it hard to deign truth from fiction and right from wrong. The only compass to guide you in such a chaotic landscape is your ambition.

Adimus Industries Heirarchy The largest spiritual organization in the mortal world, Adimus Industries is to Earth as Las Noches or Seireitei is to Hueco Mundo and the Soul Society, but who is the leader? How is it structured? Who runs the place? This list of positions and names is here to show you who currently holds which position within this faction and what their responsibilities are.
Directors, Vice Presidents, and Agents On the surface Adimus Industries is a tech company, developing the latest phones and computers for the physical world, but a splinter within this organization deals with the spiritual world. Comprising the CEO and 4 directors in charge of the various branches of the spiritual half of the company, the board of directors oversee the entire organization. While the Directors are considered the highest authority in their field, each of them ultimately answers to the CEO, who's job it is to balance the two faces of the company. Each director in turn is understudied by a Vice-President who relays orders and generally aids in the efficient chugging of the corporate machine. Answering directly to the Vice-Presidents are Agents who are the arbiters of the Directors' wills. Agents are ranked in terms of their prowess and desginated by numbers. The lower an agents number the more power they have, both within and without the company.
Department of Internal Affairs Don't let the title fool you, the Department of Internal Affairs doesn't just deal with internal disputes, root out corporate espionage, and take care of treacherous employees, they also make sure that other organizations suffer from these problems. Many of their dealings are shaded, hidden in the deepest parts of beaurocracy to keep prying eyes from witnessing what darkness the spiritual world has to offer. Many of the agents in the department are stationed in other worlds, spying on Las Noches, Seireitei, even Reverse London, eager to trade in the secrets they discover and keep the Mortal world from suffering any surprises.
Department of Acquisitions A drab name, intended to hide the departments violent nature; the Department of Acquisitions seeks out High-Spec Mortals in order to recruit and train them for the defence of the Mortal world. Their agents are organized similarly to a private military company, and each of them is taught the latest techniques of spiritual warfare, whether Earth be under threat from within or without, Hollow or Shinigami, Acquisition Agents will be there to defend it. Ocassionally they are sent into other worlds to disrupt anything that might be harmful towards Earth, though less honorable missions are rumored to be carried out off the books.
Department of Research and Development Adimus Industries' headquarters houses state of the art computer suites and workshops for developing technology capable of fighting back against the spiritual world. Additionally, the greatest magical minds tour the vast libraries of knowledge contained within the company to develop spells, just waiting for the day that the spiritual world is blown open, and magic becomes a common commodity.
Department of Welfare By hiring the worlds greatest doctors Adimus Industries leads the world in medical technology, developing new and ever wondrous drugs and cures by day, and providing much needed spiritual healing to the agents of the company, and the innocent bystanders, by night. The Department of Welfare is one of Earths only Spiritual Hospitals, with agents all over the worlds providing care for Earths brave defenders and their allies.
Company Structure
CEO of Adimus Industries: None
Director of Internal Affairs: Ireena Kolyana. Old, frail, and full of fire, Ireena fights tooth and nail in the boardroom to keep her fellow Directors from stealing the CEO position out from under her. Affectionately refers to her Agents as "Little Insects." Vice-President of Internal Affairs: Juned Bhakar. A young, thin, wiry little man, with clean shaven face and perfectly combed hair. Nobody quite knows what he does outside of order Agents around, but then again nobody is brave enough to ask him. Internal Affairs Agents: Agent #1: Agent #2: Agent #3: Agent #4:
Director of Acquisitions: Robert Smith. A large ex-military man. Loud and obnoxious, he couldn't make it in the army, so now he spends his time arguing with a small old Russian woman that he's too scared of to undermine, though he'd never admit it. Vice-President of Acquisitions: Adenike Obeng. A hearty young woman, with a lovely smile that belies the shrewdness of her eyes. Laid-back and dependable, she knows her boss won't last much longer in the company and is riding easy until she takes over as Director. Acquisition Agents: Agent #1: Agent #2: Agent #3: Agent #4:
Director of Research and Development: Lee Ye-Jin. Beautiful and intelligent, in spite of her age, the red-tape of the corporation bores her and she's looking for an early retirement to work on her inventions in peace. While she doesn't wish to be CEO, she's michieviously doing everything she can to keep the position out of the other Directors hands. Vice-President of Research and Development: Julio Thomas. Bright eyed and eager, but a little clumsy, he's rapidly trying to learn everything he can from his boss as she prepares him to take her position. He and his boss enjoy sharing jokes at their co-workers expenses, often he's the only one that gets into trouble. Research and Development Agents: Agent #1: Agent #2: Agent #3: Agent #4:
Director of Welfare: Artyom Sazkaljovich-Goral. With a warm grandfatherly face, Artyom runs the Welfare Department with his husband. Wishes to return Adimus Industries to it's roots by taking the CEO position, but perhaps too soft to get the job done. Vice-President of Welfare: Connor Sazkaljovich-Goral. Suffering from a permanently furrowed brow, Connor is the sterner half of the married medical duo. Following his husband and making sure he isn't being too nice to his employees. Welfare Agents: Agent #1: Agent #2: Agent #3: Agent #4:

Quincy Clan Hierarchy Many more Quincy clans exist, scattered from the islands of the Caribbean up into the deep tundra of Siberia and down into the beautiful Serengeti, but these are the ones that have made the biggest names for themselves following the bloodshed inflicted upon them during the Second Quincy Insurrection. Some of them are young, but many and more hold their age-old lineages closely to their heart and revere them as a source of strength.
Germanic Branch Clans
Ritter The Ritter Clan live scattered throughout cities in the Rhinelands, but the manor of the dominant family is in Cologne. Prior to the Second Insurrection, they were part of a multi-clan dynasty that dominated Central Europe. The assault directed by the Shinigami shattered the reign of the Prussian-German Quincy families also brought the Ritter Clan down to their knees. They survived, unlike the other clans in their dynastic reign of succession, but only barely. They hold steadfast to the old and brutal ways of the Germanic Quincy philosophy, viewing themselves as holy knights among the pretenders and the weak. Naturally, their arsenal of relics and weaponry remains a strong presence in the global Quincy accords; though few are willing to respect them as the demand, everyone wants the seemingly endless cache that the Ritter clan guards on their side of the argument. Head of Clan: Matthias Ritter is an older man, roughly in his mid-40's, but you wouldn't know it by his lean, almost angular physique and keen focus. He's a man of few words, and even fewer when he becomes aware he's in the company of idiots, loudmouths, and reckless suicide-by-Hollow subordinates. His silence comes off as smug, and he certainly does have higher standards than most, but underneath the air of classism, he's just a man tired of seeing his compatriots throw themselves into the grinder of tooth and claw. By day, he dutifully works as a college professor teaching ethics, all the while wondering about his own actions in the name of justice come night. He fights smart, not hard: his Spiritual Weapon is a sleek bolt-action sniper rifle. Vassal: Vassal:
Solovey The name of the Solovey clan translates to "nightingale" in Russian, which is bound to be the first thing they tell you when you meet one of them. They're socialites first and foremost, prideful but not boisterois; they exude the confidence that prowling panthers do, rather than the roaring declation of the Ritter. They dutifully attend the never-ending parade of high society fundraisers, black-tie affairs, museum galas, and garden parties, carrying out their duty under the noses of the rich. They sniff out Hollowbreed interlopers that like to indulge in the delicacies of mankind, while using their connections to purchase Quincy relics from unknowing private art collectors and cash-strapped museums. Cataloging the various works of Quincy art and history is a genuine passion to them, not a hobby, and writing them off as spoiled revelers is the surest way to get an arrow between the eyes. Head of Clan: Nadezdha Solovey. The jewel of the nightingales, the princess in obsidian feathers. She's a young nurse that beat out many others of the Solovey blood, cinching the leading position for herself and the right of succession for her plain urban family. Nadezdha comes from laundresses and repairman, not the dazzling array of heiresses, entrepeneurs, and old Russian money that dominae Solovey politics. Between exhausting stretches of time at the hospital she guards from Hollowbreed, she's slipping into too-tight silk gowns to try and charm some gormless millionaire out of an ancient Quincy tome. She's even contemplated making marks out of the other clan leaders next. Vassal: Vassal:
Vaughn The clan of Vaughn calls Wales home, and although younger than the other big Germanic clans, their blood benefits from the infusion of all the different Quincy that have settled and married with them. French Huguenots driven out in centuries past, Jewish diaspora with only their Quincy Crosses, and the many Echt that have awakened from the average human life with no other guide to their Quincy blood have all yielded amazing Vaughn warriors. Like all the clans, they're prideful in their own way: their bonds transcend blood, as they say, and for them that's cause for celebration. They often come to blows with the Ritter clan and the Nakahara of the Japanese branch for their unwavering zeal towards breaking tradition. Their weapons are often unique and now, under the young clan leader, they are sporting increasing amounts of Spiritual Weapons attuned to neutralizing foes rather than outright erasing them. The Vaughn even work with High-Spec organizations, to the ire of many. Head of Clan: Lord Vaughn is only about 28, a willowy man with a face as fresh as a college student and the grin to match. He's a natural playboy but his heart is in the right place: he refuses to break under the pleas of his advisors and their complaints regarding the clan treasury's recent losses. This is the way forward that his father believed in, and he isn't going to forsake it. Lord Vaughn is determined to prove that cooperation, not subjugation, is the future of Quincy clan relationships. He gives aid freely to the petitioning Quincy cells that operate under his aegis... though perhaps not entirely freely, as he is more than happy to collect from them in the form of spontaneous and dangerous combat assignments. Vassal: Vassal:
Ardeleanu Making their home in the lush forests of Romania, the Ardeleanu are easily the most secretive of the Germanic Quincy clans. For good reason, too; the Ardeleanu make it their mission to hunt down Bounto that hide among the fabric of Quincy society. They claim their bloodline from vampire hunters of old, believing the "vampires" those ancestors pursued in their small villages to instead be ravenous Bounto looking for their next surfeit of souls. They work closely with the Solovey, both occupying not just the lands closest to one another but a predilection for stealth-based combat. (And the rumored material indulgence of the Solovey is easily used against them, as the Bounto prey the Ardeleanu hunt often hang onto relics and artifacts from before the time they were corrupted into soul-sucking monsters). Head of Clan: A middle-aged woman with no known family among the clan, the statuesque and silent Quincy that calls herself Aurea remains a mystery to her kinsman, even if her passion is undeniable. She gives every waking moment to tracking the movement of whatever unlucky Bounto happened to catch her attention recently. She polishes her Quincy Cross with an almost religious devotion when she's not actively hunting; Morningstar, as she calls it, is a unfinished lump of silver nails smelted together in a cruelly sharp orientation. The significance and origin of her Quincy Cross are mostly the subject of jokes among the envious clan members that still yet cannot understand why the long-dead master of the Ardeleanu families knighter her as his successor. Vassal: Vassal:
Japanese Branch Clans
Nakahara Ages ago, the brave onna-musha Tomoe Gozen left her mark on Japanese history through her service to Lord Yoshinaka of the Minamoto Clan Samurai during the Genpei War. Her beauty rivaled her martial skill, and while some warriors barely managed to master a simple sword, Tomoe Gozen could handle not just bows and blades but the horses of war. The revered figure, unbeknowst to many, channeled the power of the divine in her conquests, and in honor of her skill, existing Minamoto Quincy instead took her family name of Nakahara. It is said some of the Nakahara clan that live today are even descended from her bloodline: many have come forth trying to prove that their Schrift is one and the same as Tomoe Gozen's, as documented in the Nakahara clan's annals. All of have been proven as pretenders and opportunistic con-men. The shrewd Nakahara uphold their honor of their ancestral figure in striking down the unworthy, and out of all the Japanese branch clans, they have the most in common with their brethren of the Germanic branches: they take the most martial paths to victory, only indulging out of tradition's sake in the warding tools of custom. Head of Clan: Kazuko Nakahara, also known as Red Kazuko, is 40 years old with the sharpest gaze you never want to meet. No more, said Red Kazuko, just a child when her parents were slain in the last of the Second Insurrection massacres. There is no longer time for peace with the black-robed ghosts that hold too tightly onto the reins of the world. They've taken too much and she no longer cares to parley when they intrude upon her territory; the city of Osaka has become a warning zone for Shinigami, as Red Kazuko prowls nightly looking for Shinigami recruits to extort information from. She rallies more Quincy under her banner every day, planning for the ransacking of what was once ransacked from her kin. What the Shinigami stole to provoke such ire, or perhaps if they just stole too much that fateful day, no one knows. Few believe what Red Kazuko seeks is something she can really steal back, instead whispering that she intends to rescue the souls of her parents. Vassal: Vassal:
Matsunaga The way of Shintō, still deeply woven into Japanese culture, reminds even those who cannot fathom the existence of such creatures as Hollowbreed and Shinigami that the world is alive and it is to be taken care of. Even now, in the age of plastic and light, the blessing of the shrines carries a sacred power. This is the passion of the Matsunaga, priests and shrine maidens that look back to ancestors and spirits for guidance in their cleansing of the firmament from the Hollow taint. They are among the most approachable of the clans, even among the Germanic branches, as their services have a civilian niche that they are ready to employ. Their protecting wards, crafted through tools like Ginto, utilize the Quincy spellcraft arts in ways unimaginable by the average Quincy, and they make sure to guard their research with their lives left other hungry clans attempt to usurp that power. Head of Clan: His clansmen jokingly call him Oji-chan, but despite his flailings about the title, the man in his 50's named Shouhei Matsunaga is deeply warmed by their unexpected affection. He's the third son of a smaller Matsunaga family offshoot holding the right of succession, and the last expected to inherit the title from his father. Shouhei would be the first to admit that his older brothers outpaced him in religious piety and martial skill, and by all rights the title would have otherwise gone to one of them first if not for their unexpected treachery against their father. He has yet to understand exactly why they turned their backs on the clan in such a way, and yet, he still finds plenty of time to assure that his clan is provided for and taken care of in the ways only a leader can do. The rest of the clan does their best to bring him out of his long moments of regretful pondering and muttering, and their loyalty to him surpasses even that to his father. Vassal: Vassal:
Toya The Toya are Quincy first and foremost, but all of the families that bear the Toya name produce children that pride themselves on being scholars too. They are a scattered lineage that almost always intertwine themselves monetarily and scholastically with their local educational facilities. Many live in Tokyo, taking advantage of the wealth of universities and the ease with which they're accessed. Like the Solovey they seek out relics, artifacts, and Quincy works of art, but they focus on these in order to derive theories about the origin, purpose, and evolution of the Quincy. Their clan manors often have their own labs and libraries with which to study and research whatever topic has piqued their interest. A great deal of them earnestly believe that Soul Society will listen if they are able to bring definitive proof of their right to exist in this world: for this reason, the Toya are an often unpopular clan for their percieved sympathies to the Shinigami crimes against Quincy. They are (justifiably) quick to point out to their critics that the research they do is also frequently utilized by other clans towards developing stronger Ginto, better tools, and new body refinement techniques. Head of Clan: A former student of Red Kazuko, Dr. Aoi Toya desperately seeks to prove to her icy mentor that the way forward doesn't have to be paid in blood. The shy 30-something hides a sparkling wit and an even brighter smile beneath the pair of goggles often seen strapped tight onto her head. She's not the best with words, as her debates with Red Kazuko prove, but she has the research and the history to back up her own beliefs... she just needs some help when it comes to getting others to listen to her argument in good faith. Aoi's research focuses on the link between Schrift and the DNA within their bodies, as she's determined to find a way to activate Schrifts within mortal members of the clan that have not yet been able to awaken Quincy powers. Hierarchy of the Clocktower of Reverse London Welcome to the Clocktower, keepers of the delicate ecosystem that is Reverse London and shepherds to the Dragons. Or executioners, depending on the type of Dragon. Eight squadrons, called Orders, form the Clocktower, each one run of by a Director and immediately attended to by two Assistants. Witches within an Order but occupying no unique position are simply called by their Order-unique epithets.
The Eight Mystic Orders
Inks Also known as the Sorcerers, the Inks are responsible for the codification of Magic utilized by Clocktower witches. New release codes, as they call them, are endlessly tweaked into perfection by the spell-junkies of the Inks. They're even responsible for studying the spellcasting techniques of other species to better their own spellcasting tools and incantations. Inks are responsible for dispensing the spellcasting "spray can" weapon units and Witch Kits to other members of Clocktower as well as monitoring their usage by the organization. They are represented by glowing glyph of Uranus, the seventh planet of the solar system, and the divine personification of the heavens. Director: Domnall Mackenzie is bravado, personified. He rivals Harris Hodge for the number of completely avoidable injuries requiring emergency treatment from Patchworks, but unlike Hodge, half of these he gets from himself. His style of magic is explosive, bombastic, and 90% of the time it involves a building being blown from its foundation. His pay is more or less docked entirely in order to fund the costs of repairs and legal settlements. Because of that, he lives with Lucy Lionheart in her flat in Reverse London and poses as her great-grandson at her mahjong gatherings. Assistant: Assistant: Known Sorcerers:
Gallows The Justiciars, as they are alternately called, are responsible for the punishment of criminals held within Clocktower and those who violate the Dragon Contact Prohibition, as well as the Clocktower Accord. The first Gallows to roam the streets of London penned the Clocktower Accord on behalf of Queen Elizabeth I, and since then it has undergone many edits and renovations to change with the times. The central rules more or less remain the same: do not disclose the existence of Reverse London (and Clocktower) to mundane humans, do not use the weapons and spells granted by your powers upon mundane humans, and under no circumstances should a Witch fraternize or give shelter to an uncollared Dark Dragon. Gallows are represented by the polished glyph of Jupiter, the fifth planet in the solar system, and the Roman god of oaths, justice, lightning, and the sky. Director: Eleanor Holmes, at your service. She's the kind of boisterous that you want at a bar, not violent but simply extremely fun. She believes deeply in challenging the other Directors to prove that she can do their job as easy as she can do her own, and she'll challenge them on just about anything... regardless of whether it relates to the management of their squadron or not. Thankfully, she's also an extremely competent and dangerously clever boss. Her subordinates simply call her Holmes, something she more than encourages. Assistant: Assistant: Known Justiciars:
Patchworks Patchworks are known as the Alchemists, occupying a small but powerful division of Clocktower: research and development. They study and preserve the corpses of both Dark Dragons and benign Dragons to better understand how they can be subdued and/or utilized. They are also responsible for the treatment of mundane humans afflicted by Dragotoxin, a unique substance secreted by Dragons, and ways to mitigate the dragon-luring effect of Dragonclad Mortals (mundane mortals that have absorbed enough Dragotoxin into their system by proxy). They also research the existence of the Marchen, the progenitors of Dark Dragons that take their names from fairy tales and are rumored to have existed since before the foundation of Clocktower. No Marchen have been sight for roughly a century, but that doesn't stop the Patchworks from looking. The symbol of the Patchworks is the reflective glyph of Mercury, the first planet of the solar system, and the Roman god of commerce, eloquence, trickery, thieves, and luck. Director: Dr. O'Brian. The good doctor is one part genius and one part scatterbrain, leaving scraps of paper stained with inky notes and coffee cup rings all over Clocktower for his unfortunate (or lucky) subordinates to pick up. His passion is researching Dragotoxins, including synthesizing new types that can be utilized against Dragons themselves. It's nearly impossible to get him to seperate from his work when he's in one of his grooves, so the subordinates more or less fight each other for his scant attention when it's available. Assistant: Assistant: Known Alchemists:
Sabres The Sabres, also known as the Excaliburs within the Order, live to protect both sides of London. They are the evening patrol that seeks to find Dark Dragons terrorizing the cityscape under the veil of night. Many of them excel in martial utilizations of their Witch powers, yet as gruff or surly as they might come off, they're some of the most caring people in Clocktower. Many Witches that have ended up joining the Sabres do so because they want to protect the people they love and the innocents that cannot see Dragons from the dangers they can end up manifesting, not for the thrill of battle (unlike the Inks, who relish in using their magical prowess). They work closely with the Gallows to apprehend criminal Witches and mortals working alongside Dark Dragons. They are represented by the bloody glyph of Mars, fourth planet in the solar system, as well as Roman god of war, agriculture, and the acquisition of peace via military power. Director: Harris Hodge is your quintessential stiff-upper-lip keep-calm-carry-on preaching paternal figure. He even wears his own outfit, which he handmade himself, and it matches the other outfits that he has handmade for his subordinates that they refuse to wear. He's extremely overbearing and often ignorant of when something is too dangerous to be toughed through: the Patchworks squadron takes great care to make his frequent (unnecessary) injury treatments painful in the hopes he'll learn someday. Assistant: Assistant: Known Excaliburs:
Pipers Called the Bards when referred to within the Order, Pipers are responsible for the domestication, breeding, and caretaking of benign Dragons. The small population that lives in Reverse London (usually Witches and families of Witches) rely deeply on the services and goods rendered from benign Dragons, including ore, produce, transportation, radio waves, meat, medicines, fuel, and textiles. They also apprehend criminals that breed benign Dragons without a permit or the trafficking of benign Dragons. Many Pipers are caring and tender people, but beware, as they make foes more frightening than the Inks when they've been alerted to the mistreatment of benign Dragons. They are represented by twinkling glyph Neptune, the eighth planet of the solar system, and the Roman god of seas (in both calm and storm, as befitting of the similarly tempestuous moods of the Pipers). Director: Mr. Bertie is a man so old and so small and wrinkled he almost looks like if a turtle had simply decided one day that it wanted to walk on two feet and have thumbs. He's half-senile, his glasses are so thick they could be used as hockey pucks, and he can't walk; he moves around in a walking chair that is actually a benign Dragon called a Chairbear, bred to be used by paraplegics and the disabled of Reverse London. He runs Holbrook Farm, the benign dragon breeding grounds located in the heart of Reverse London, and he is beloved nigh-universally by the creatures that make their home there. Nowadays he needs an attendant lest he get knocked over by an overexcited Woolly Wally, but in the past he was as friendly and familiar with them as a sheepdog with his herd. Assistant: Assistant: Known Bards:
Anthems Known as the Nobles within their Order, the Anthems are responsible for keeping both Clocktower and Reverse London running like a well-oiled machine. They supervise the administrative duties across all of the various Clocktower Orders, as well as managing the coffers of Clocktower. They are treasury and bureaucracy wrapped into an extremely tidy package, and the Witches that staff the Anthems are similar polished individuals. Many have mortal credentials to their name, like positions at high-earning companies, prestigious degrees from vaunted universities, and bloodlines tied back to royalty itself. The prestige of the Anthems simply attracts the type of person that likes exacting precision and luxury, and whether they're worthy of it or not comes down to the harsh gaze of Clocktower. They are represented by the golden glyph of Saturn, the sixth planet of the solar system, and the Roman god of wealth, abundant harvest, time, renewal, and liberation. Director: Lady Mildred Davenport, the unabashed snob that flaunts her heritage like it's a red cape and the rest of Clocktower her bull. She's a troublemaker that happens to be extremely good at procuring government funding for Clocktower, which is probably the only reason she gets to keep the position. If you can her affections (usually in a battle of wits against other employees for her entertainment over tea) you might be lucky enough to get a little bonus to your pay, or an outright check penned right then and there. Sacreds The Oracles, as they are called, are responsible for the education of young Witches new to the world of Reverse London and Magic. Senior figures from other Orders often transfer over when they come to the realization that they can no longer fight as fiercely as the field requires. Most of the Sacreds are kindly, knowing that the dearth of new information can be overwhelming to a young Witch, and readily volunteer their expert opinions (maybe too readily). Some are a little tougher, but these Witches are beloved too among their students, as not all that seek to learn want to do so from overly-indulgent teachers. They administer the exams to the Witches seeking a place within Clocktower and are responsible for determining what exactly goes into the test portions. These exams are notoriously flexible, so as to prevent cheating, and to gauge the individual skills of a Witch rather than fitting the Witch to some trivial standard baseline. They are represented by Venus, the second planet of the solar system, and the Roman goddess of love, desire, fertility, and victory. Director: Lucy Lionheart, despite the name, is simply a kindly old woman. In her heyday, she was the poster girl for British patriotism in the face of terror, posing on many flyer and encouraging civilians to help out with the effort. Nowadays, she's a spry nonagenerian that flirts with "young strapping" Mr. Bertie and teases her Witch students to hell and back. She's seen every kind of Witch there is and delivered final marks on their exams most likely. Don't fuck with her. Assistant: Assistant: Known Oracles:
